On his knees,
between breaths,
two words were constantly said.
Anger heating him
as he melts
into pools of tears
and two words,
next to her bed.
Two words over and over,
and over again.
Leaving no room
in his head,
for what she said.
What might have been her goodbye,
words burned by his heat,
drowned by his eyes.
No memory of her voice,
no recollection of her face.
Just his two words—
“You’re dying”
Echo in his mind.
